What happens with merged cells?

Merged cells are flattened. The value of the top-left cell in the merge is placed in the first column position and remaining cells show empty.

Can it handle very wide spreadsheets?

Wide spreadsheets with many columns produce wide Markdown tables. These may not render well in narrow editors but are syntactically correct Markdown.

Are charts converted?

Charts and graphs embedded in the spreadsheet are not converted. Only cell data is extracted.

Does it support .xls format?
